Power Players: Massachusetts' top political donors, 2011-2012

The 17 top political donors from Massachusetts, including five mega-wealthy couples, have bestowed at least $7,040,985 to federal and Bay State candidates and causes since January, 2011. These elite donors are drawn from the top of the Boston area’s social strata. The collection of 9 women and 8 men include scientists, venture capitalists, art patronesses, devout Mormons, die-hard Democrats, physicians, a supermarket chain heir and a wealthy divorcee and philanthropist. The data includes contributions to federal and state candidates and committees, federal leadership PACS and party committees and 527s, which are groups created under IRS laws that act independently of candidates and their campaigns
